Building Engineer

The Building Engineer serves as the face of the company on-site by carrying out repair and maintenance and assisting in tenant relations.

About this Position

The Building Engineer is assigned a portfolio of properties to carry out on-site repair and maintenance, coordinate with vendors, and assists the management team in tenant relations and communications. With a foundational knowledge in building systems, ability to perform routine repairs and maintenance, and a willingness to tackle the needs of the property, both large and small, the Building Engineer fulfills an essential role in the successful management of commercial properties.


High school or GED equivalent.

Minimum three years of experience in commercial real estate with preference for office, retail, and industrial facility maintenance.

Demonstrated familiarity with building mechanical systems, HVAC and access control preferred.

Experience with a computerized maintenance management system, Building Engines preferred.

Knowledge of codes, laws and regulations pertaining to the operation of a facility and understanding of blueprints and schematics.

Strong organizational and communication skills.

Ability to operate a motor vehicle.

Ability to operate power tools, power lifts, scaffolding, ladders and read digital meters and voltage testers. (See more below).

Ability to walk, climb, kneel, lift, crawl, squat, bend, and other physical actions to perform office-related activities. (See more below).


Valid Oregon or Washington Driver’s License.


Perform preventative and general maintenance to building and mechanical operating systems. Work with fellow engineers in making minor repairs to various building operating systems.

Respond to assigned work orders promptly and complete documentation in Building Engines.

Oversee third-party vendor work by monitoring progress and reporting any deficiencies to management team.

Serve as the company’s on-site representative with tenants, demonstrating excellent customer service by coordinating follow-up to identified needs. Assist management team in tenant communications as requested.

Maintain availability and ability to respond to after-hours emergencies.

Conduct routing property inspections with special attention to safety issues and maintaining curb appeal.

Assist Construction Management team on tenant improvement projects as requested.

Assist with fire life safety system tests.

Perform other tasks as required.
