Why our certifications matter: A deeper commitment to our clients & community

Authored by Jordan Elliott, President at NAI Elliott

At NAI Elliott, we believe that commercial real estate management is about more than just maintaining properties or closing deals. It’s about long-term stewardship, trust, and doing business the right way for our clients, our employees, our communities, and the industry at large.

That philosophy has been built into our company from our founding in 1982 and through every advancement until today and it’s one reason we’ve pursued (and earned) three of the most respected third-party certifications in the business:

  • Accredited Management Organization (AMO) from the Institute of Real Estate Management
  • Certified B Corporation (B Corp) designation from B Lab
  • SOC 1 Type 2 audit report conducted by Perkins & Co

These aren’t just badges or marketing tools. They’re external validations of how we operate every day: with structure, transparency, and purpose. They reinforce our commitment to best practices, ethical standards, and long-term client success and they provide our staff and community with measurable value.

Here’s how.

The AMO Designation: Setting the Standard in Property Management

The Accredited Management Organization certification is issued by the Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM)—a globally respected professional body that sets the benchmark for excellence in property and asset management. To maintain our AMO status (which we’ve held continuously since 2007), we must:

  • Employ Certified Property Managers (CPMs) in senior roles
  • Demonstrate sound financial and operational systems
  • Maintain proper insurance, compliance, and risk mitigation practices
  • Uphold a formal code of ethics, enforced by IREM

This accreditation is more than a credential, it’s an operational framework that governs how we serve clients. From internal training and software systems to lease administration, maintenance planning, and financial reporting, AMO status ensures that we bring industry-leading processes to every property we manage.

For our clients, that means:

  • Your properties are managed by professionals who follow proven practices, not ad hoc solutions
  • Your reports are accurate, timely, and aligned with your investment strategy
  • Your tenants are supported by systems that enhance service and satisfaction
  • Your fiduciary exposure is reduced by documented standards and third-party oversight

In a market full of management companies, AMO status signals a commitment to excellence, accountability, and long-term reliability.

The B Corp Certification: Recognizing The Value of Values

We’re proud to share that in 2025, NAI Elliott became a Certified B Corporation. This certification is awarded by B Lab, a nonprofit that rigorously evaluates businesses across social, environmental, and governance metrics.

To achieve certification, a company must:

  • Score 80+ on the B Impact Assessment (which evaluates operations, policies, and impact on stakeholders)
  • Make a legal commitment to consider community benefit in its governance structure
  • Demonstrate ongoing transparency, with data and performance publicly available

The B Corp certification reflects what we’ve long believed: that doing business the right way leads to better outcomes for clients, for employees, and for communities.

For property owners and investors, the B Corp philosophy translates to tangible benefits:

  • We approach every decision with a long-term perspective, balancing profitability with sustainability, equity, and social responsibility
  • We attract and retain talented professionals who are aligned with our values and dedicated to doing meaningful work
  • We help clients meet their own environmental, equity, governance or other community-impact goals by bringing insight, experience, and tools to the table

Whether you’re pursuing defined goals or simply want to be a good neighbor in your community, we’re a partner who can translate those intentions into action without sacrificing performance or professionalism.

The SOC 1 Type 2 Report: Protecting Your Data, Dollars, and Decisions

While values and standards are essential, so is technical precision, especially in accounting and cybersecurity. That’s why we’ve completed a SOC 1 Type 2 audit, conducted by Perkins & Co, one of the Pacific Northwest’s top CPA firms.

SOC stands for System and Organization Controls, established by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and designed to test whether a company’s financial reporting and data systems are secure, well-structured, and actually operating as intended over time.

A Type 2 report is the highest level of SOC 1 review. It evaluates not just design, but performance—based on real-world evidence on every control across months of operations.

Here’s what it means for you:

  • Risk is reduced. Our accounting systems have clear segregation of duties, structured approval workflows, and auditable reporting processes.
  • Your data is protected. We’ve implemented best practices in cybersecurity, role-based access, and redundant backup systems.
  • You can trust the numbers. From rent rolls and reconciliations to financial statements and year-end reporting, our systems hold up under third-party scrutiny.

This capability is rare among independent CRE firms, and it positions us to work seamlessly with all types of commercial real estate owners and providers from family offices to institutional clients, from lenders to trust companies, meeting or exceeding high standards of compliance and reporting.

For clients of any size, it means fewer surprises, greater transparency, and peace of mind that your assets—and your financial information—are in trustworthy hands.

A Network That Amplifies These Values

While we take pride in our certifications as a firm, we also recognize that today’s real estate world is more interconnected than ever. Our membership in NAI Global reinforces these commitments by connecting us to a powerful network of independent, values-aligned commercial real estate firms around the world.

Partner With a Values-Driven Team

Whether you’re a property owner, prospective client, or a broker exploring your next opportunity, these certifications reflect more than process—they represent a culture of integrity, rigor, and alignment.

If you’re looking for a team whose expertise, accountability, and service are backed by meaningful credentials, I’d be glad to discuss how we can support your property or portfolio.
